Construction

The Client

Paynter Dixon is a family-owned construction company based in New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

Renowned for their expertise in master planning, design, and construction services, they operate multiple construction sites across the region.

The company prides itself on its commitment to safety and quality in all its projects.

The Challenge

Recently, Paynter Dixon faced a significant challenge with the implementation of stringent silica airborne dust regulations affecting all their construction sites.

This left the company with a difficult choice: halt construction activities or find a safe, compliant solution to manage silica dust effectively.

The regulations not only impacted the construction process but also raised concerns about the health implications for contract workers and the potential for airborne silica dust to affect nearby schools, shopping centres, and residential areas.

This situation created urgency for a solution that would ensure compliance while maintaining project timelines and worker safety.

The Solution

Initially, Paynter Dixon purchased a competitor’s sweeper, believing it would address their dust management needs.

However, they quickly discovered that the filtration system of the sweeper was not compliant with the new silica dust regulations.

Recognising the inadequacy of the first solution, Paynter Dixon conducted further research and contacted ASC’s NSW Area Manager, Scott Campbell, to help with the process.

Ultimately decided to invest in two ASC M1 heavy-duty construction sweepers, equipped with M-Class filters.

These specialised sweepers are designed specifically for the effective collection of fine dust particles, including silica, thus ensuring compliance with the new laws.

By choosing the right equipment, Paynter Dixon not only complied with the new laws but also set a standard for safety and community responsibility in the construction industry.
