Brickyards & Aluminium Smelters

The Client

Alcoa Portland Aluminium produces 35,000 metric tonnes per annum of alumina, at its smelter in Victoria.
Portland Aluminium has a seven kilometre production line, which produces around 20 per cent of Australia’s aluminium and makes a significant contribution to the Victorian economy.

Veolia is the contractor responsible for sweeping the production lines and yard areas.
The Challenge
Veolia purchased an ASC heavy duty Diesel powered M8 sweeper 18 months ago, to maintain the smelter free of dust and debris.
The machine was used to maintain the pot rooms running two shifts per day.
Over that time the machine proved to be reliable and highly efficient at sweeping up alumina dust.
The ASC M8’s hydraulic and electrical system was not affected by the electrical interference from the pot rooms, which proved to be a major stumbling block for many other machines the company looked at.
Veolia decided, given its positive experience with the ASC M8 Sweeper, to purchase another ASC M8.
The Result
ASC’s Giovanni Angelone, Victoria Sales Manager, delivered and installed the new ASC M8 sweeper to the Veolia Sweeping team.
